Five destinations take most of Europe corporate offsites: Lisbon, Barcelona, Mallorca, Prague and Amsterdam. They separate on four measurable criteria, door to door travel time, budget per person, venue capacity and weather on your dates. The table below compares them on those four.
We are based in Lisbon and we are not going to pretend otherwise. But we regularly lose projects to Barcelona or Mallorca for good reasons, and it is better to choose knowingly than to discover the problem three months out.

Which destination for which kind of offsite?
A leadership team of 15 to 30. Prague and Lisbon give the best ratio between venue quality and budget. On this format, privatising a characterful venue costs half what it does in Amsterdam.
A sales kick off of 80 to 150. Barcelona and Lisbon. Hotel density with plenary space is highest there, which leaves you real negotiating room.
An incentive trip. Mallorca and Lisbon. The coastal and water sports element changes the nature of the event, and both destinations have it within an hour of the centre.
A convention above 300. Barcelona keeps a clear lead on the number of venues that can absorb that volume. Lisbon follows, with fewer options but noticeably lower rates.
An off season offsite, November to March. Lisbon and Mallorca. These are the only two on the list where outdoor activities stay workable in winter, with 15 to 17 degrees during the day in Lisbon in January.
What actually sets Lisbon apart
Three things, and we will give you the limits of each.
Budget. At equal specification, the gap with Barcelona is 20 to 25 % on hotels and catering. On a group of 100 that is 20,000 to 30,000 € that pays for the closing evening or an extra activity. The limit: that gap narrows every year, it was 35 % in 2019.
Compactness. The airport is 15 minutes from the centre, which is rare for a European capital. Groups lose less time in transfers, and a three day programme genuinely contains three usable days. The limit: steep streets and cobbles make getting around harder for some participants.
Off season weather. More than 300 days of sun a year, and outdoor activities from March to November, sometimes February. The limit: July and August are hot, around 30 degrees, which makes midday activities uncomfortable.
The case against Lisbon
We may as well say it. If your convention exceeds 500 people in a single plenary, the supply is limited and the two or three possible venues book a year ahead. If your participants come from Central or Northern Europe, the flight is longer than to Barcelona or Prague, which counts on a two day format. And if you want mountains or skiing, Lisbon is obviously not the answer.
How to decide
Rank your four criteria in order of importance before you look at any destination. Nine times out of ten the first criterion eliminates two destinations and the decision becomes easy. The trap is to look at destinations first, fall for one, and then go looking for arguments.

Which is the cheapest European offsite destination?
Prague, then Lisbon. The gap between them is small and Lisbon offers more off season outdoor options.
How long a flight is acceptable for an offsite?
Up to three hours for a three day offsite. Beyond that, keep the format for four days or more, otherwise travel eats too large a share of the event.
Can you hold an offsite in Southern Europe in winter?
Yes in Lisbon and Mallorca, where January daytime temperatures sit around 15 to 17 degrees and outdoor activities stay workable. Hotel rates run 30 to 40 % below May.
City or coastal resort?
A city if the offsite involves work and evenings, a resort if the objective is reward and disconnection. Lisbon and Cascais let you combine both, 30 minutes apart.
